Episode 58
Would you like to improve your communications and leadership skills along with other supportive and inspiring people? Do you live in or near Lexington? Then this episode is for you.
You’re listening to Bluegrass Region Voices and Views, where I shine a spotlight on interesting people, places, and activities around the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky.
I’m inviting you to visit the Downtown Lunch Bunch Toastmasters Club.
I became a member in March this year, and I’ve found my new club home after being away from Toastmasters for about six years.
We meet on Thursdays from Noon to 1:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church at 150 East High Street in Lexington.
We have the privilege of meeting on the first floor in the beautiful Fireside Room in the ROC building. Parking is free and easy in the church’s parking lots.
Just walk up to the building with ROC Fellowship Hall on it in large letters. That’s the Recreational Outreach Center. The outside door is unlocked, and the attendant will unlock the inside door, and you just walk down the hall toward the Toastmasters International Banner, and the Fireside Room is on the right.
You’ll discover a place to work on becoming more comfortable and skilled at speaking both in front of a group of people and in one-on-one interactions. And you will have lots of fun on your journey.
If you’re already a member of a Toastmasters Club, this could be the perfect second club experience for you.
After you’ve gotten some experience with public speaking, you’ll have opportunities to learn more about leadership as well…if you want. But most of us begin with getting over stage fright or at least overcome a little reluctance to deliver a presentation or participate in a discussion or panel.
We’ll encourage you to visit three times to be sure that you find it to be a good fit for you and your schedule.
If you decide to join, cost is a $25.00 one-time fee to begin and $72.00 every six months. Most of us also donate one dollar a meeting to the church for allowing us to use the space.
I’m inviting you to come as my guest and see what we’re all about.
Even though our name is Downtown Lunch Bunch, food is not actually available or served during the meeting. There is a vending machine right outside our room. Restrooms are nearby as well.
Joe Bologna’s Restaurant, Joe B’s, is a short two block walk away if you want to stay parked and have some amazing breadsticks and garlic butter after our meeting.
I first joined a Toastmasters Club in 1979. It changed my career path in a very positive way. I believe that there is no better place to work on your communications and leadership skills at your pace for as long as you want for such little investment in time and money.
It’s all about showing up, getting a little incremental stage time at your pace, and beginning to put your new skills to work in the real world. One meeting at a time. It works. Come visit us.
